About the League

The OQSL, which is in its 15 season in 2023, is an inclusive recreational softball league for 2SLGBTQ+ people, and allies, that aims to refine the skills of its members in a fun, safe & social environment.

We play most Friday evenings at fields in central Ottawa from late May to mid-September with a few Saturday games as well.  We do not play during the Canada Day, August Civic Holiday or Labour Day long weekends.  After Friday evening games we usually meet up for social time at the Royal Oak at Bank / Gloucester.

You do not have to have a team in order to join the league as the teams are set each year by Captains and the Executive.   In order to balance teams we request new players to participate in our Skills and Drills event in early May so that they can be evaluated.  We welcome and support players of all skills – from retired Pros (we wish!) to players entirely new to softball / baseball.

Recommended apparel for softball

At a minimum, we recommend you wear comfortable athletic wear and closed toe running shoes or softball/baseball cleats (note: metal softball/baseball cleats are not permitted in OQSL activities).

Most players wear shorts or softball/baseball pants and t-shirts or long sleeved t-shirts along with a ball cap

You will need your own softball or baseball glove.  League members can receive special offers from Baseball Town on Bank Street.  Please speak to your captains or members of the Executive about these offers.

The league will supply softball bats, balls and bases.

It’s important to stay hydrated and to replenish your energy so be sure to bring a water bottle and a snack.

The league also supports Drag and Balls where our finest descend upon the Riverain Park to sashay and slay in a charity event to support the Bruce House.
