About the league

The OQSL has entered its 16th season and remains a vibrant recreational Ottawa-based softball league for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and their allies. We dedicate this league to fostering skill development in a fun, secure, and social environment, welcoming players of all skill levels.

The league Executive Committee and Captains draft new teams each year. To balance teams, we encourage new players to attend the Skills and Drills event in early May for evaluation.

Our league proudly supports the Drag and Balls charity softball tournament. Held at Riverain Park, this tournament allows participants to showcase their finest performances, contributing to the charitable cause of supporting Bruce House.

Games and Rules

We schedule most games on Friday evenings at central Ottawa fields from late May to mid-September, with occasional Saturday games. We do not schedule games on long weekends such as Canada Day, the August Civic Holiday, or on Labour Day. Post-Friday games, league members gather for socializing at the Royal Oak located at Bank/Gloucester.

The OQSL league adheres to the 2018-2019 Slo-Pitch Ontario Rules (with exceptions). For more information, please view the OQSL Rules of Play.

Equipment

Participants need to bring their own softball or baseball glove. The league continues to provide softball bats, balls, and bases. We recommend all players wear comfortable athletic attire, closed-toe running shoes, or softball/baseball cleats (metal cleats are not allowed). Most players prefer shorts or softball/baseball pants, along with t-shirts or long-sleeved alternatives, complemented by a ball cap.
