About the league

Entering its 16th season in 2024, the OQSL remains a vibrant recreational Ottawa-based softball league for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and their allies. This league is dedicated to fostering skill development in a fun, secure, and social environment. Players of all skill levels are welcomed.

The league Executive Committee and Captains draft new teams each year. In an effort to balance teams, new players are encouraged to attend the Skills and Drills event in early May for evaluation.

In addition to its sporting endeavors, the league proudly supports Drag and Balls, a charity softball tournament at Riverain Park. Participants showcase their finest performances, contributing to the charitable cause of supporting Bruce House.

Games and Rules

Most games are scheduled on Friday evenings in central Ottawa fields from late May to mid-September, with occasional Saturday games. Games are not scheduled on long weekends such as Canada Day, August Civic Holiday, or on Labour Day. Post-Friday games, league members gather for socializing at the Royal Oak located at Bank/Gloucester.

The OQSL league adheres to the 2018-2019 Slo-Pitch Ontario Rules (with exceptions). For more information, please view the OQSL Rules of Play.

Equipment

Participants need to bring their own softball or baseball glove. The league continues to provide softball bats, balls, and bases. Recommended attire includes comfortable athletic wear, closed-toe running shoes, or softball/baseball cleats (metal cleats are not permitted). Most players prefer shorts or softball/baseball pants, along with t-shirts or long-sleeved alternatives, complemented by a ball cap.
