Skills and Drills

This season our league will have 9 teams competing and our goal is to always make these teams as fair as possible. We make the teams fair by holding a draft between Team Captains and picking teams based on individual rankings. In order to achieve this goal each season we host two Skills and Drills clinics, which serve the following purposes:

1) Introduction to the sport, and practice for you;

2) Evaluation of your skills and abilities by the Team Captains in preparation for the draft;

3) Meet the Team Captains before the draft;

4) Get answers to questions you have about the game, the league, or anything, and;

5) Have fun!

New players to the league: For new players to the league, and players who have not attended a Skills and Drills in the past, it is very important that you come out to one or both of the Skills and Drills clinics. PLEASE RSVP which date(s) you are planning to attend at this link: http://www.oqsl.ca/2018-season/skills-and-drills/.

Creating evenly matched teams is impossible without your participation in the Skills and Drills clinics. Help us make the league fun for everyone by coming out to one, or both of these events.

All players: Have you ever considered pitching? Want to give it a try? We need you! If you are interested in becoming a pitcher or backup pitcher for this season please come out to Skills and Drills clinic and we will match you up with one of our existing pitchers for tips and practice! PLEASE RSVP which date(s) you are planning to attend at this link: http://www.oqsl.ca/2018-season/skills-and-drills/.

What clothing and equipment do you need in order to participate?

At a minimum, we recommend you wear comfortable athletic wear and closed toe running shoes. This may include: shorts, t-shirts, long sleeved t-shirts, sweat pants, softball/baseball cleats, softball/baseball pants, and maybe a ball cap (note: metal softball/baseball cleats are not permitted in OQSL activities). You will need your own softball or baseball glove. The league will supply softball bats and balls. It’s important to stay hydrated and to replenish your energy so be sure to bring a water bottle and a snack if you like.

If you have questions regarding the Skills and Drills events and the clothing or equipment for softball, please do not hesitate to contact the league at [email protected].
