Playoff Rules

After the 2018 OQSL Regular Season is completed teams will be ranked from 1st to 9th place using total points achieved. If a tie breaker is required the following criteria will be used in sequence until the tie is broken:

1) Head to head

2) Run differential

3) Best runs scored over the course of the season

4) Coin toss

Once the ranking is final teams will be slotted into the 2018 OQSL Playoff schedule according to their rank. The playoff format is double elimination: a team will play until they lose twice.

The Home team will always be the highest ranked team based on the 2018 OQSL Regular Season final rankings.

All winner bracket games (green) will be a full 7 innings, all loser bracket games (red) will be 5 innings, and Game 17 (if required) is 3 innings. Game 17 is only required if it was the loser of Game 16s first loss of the Playoffs. Although the goal is to complete the full slate of innings per game, there are time limitations. No new innings can be started with 15 minutes remaining in the scheduled game. At the 15 minutes remaining point in the game, contesting teams must finish the top and the bottom of the current inning.

Due to time limitations, if a game ends in a tie after playing the scheduled amount of innings, or if the game was called due to time, the winner will be determined based on the team with the most runs achieved in the last 2 innings. If this doesn’t break the tie then the winner will be determined based on the team with the most runs achieved in the last 3 innings, then 4 innings, etc…

Beyond these rules, the OQSL rule book is in effect.

Note: The OQSL Year-end banquet will be held September 15 after games at the Royal Oak.
